About the event
Dr. Kay Harkins, Saluda resident and mental health therapist, will speak to us about the connection between mental health issues and the aging process. Most of us over the age of 50 are well acquainted with how our brains have changed and often aren’t as sharp as they used to be. We’re also aware day by day of other life changes that can accompany the aging process: retirement, empty nests, increased risk of illness and disease, loss of friends, and so on. All these changes and uncertainties can set the stage for anxiety, depression, and various other mental health problems.
BUT, we also know that getting older is not all doom and gloom. There are family, friends, community, beautiful scenery, and neighbors who care. There are SLIP volunteers to transport you, visit with you, even do minor repairs to your home. SO, come join the SLIP community and your other neighbors as Dr. Harkins shares with us how to face the aging challenges gracefully and courageously, be grateful for all that is right in our world. AND learn of the resources available to help create a smooth transition into this next chapter of our life stories.
SLIP’s Purpose is to strengthen our community through compassion, empathy, and encouragement to enable seniors to remain in their homes and have greater life satisfaction.
